Concrete will crack at the point of least resistance in the slab. Cutting control joints into the slab creates a weak area which directs or funnels cracking due to shrinkage

When using a concrete walk-behind grinder, the attached tooling is like a saw blade attached to a circle saw. It does the cutting. Without the tooling, the grinder is pretty much useless. The tooling is what is doing the cutting, not the grinder.

When polishing or preparing a concrete floor for a coating, the bulk of the work is performed with a walk-behind grinder or shot blaster. Both produce a clean, well-prepared surface. Unfortunately, they are large pieces of equipment and cannot prepare the entire floor. Underneath toe kicks, water fountains, and conveyor belts will be an issue, but the area at the interface of the wall and floor will be on every project.

Since the late 1990s, polished concrete has been one of the most popular flooring systems for industrial floors. It started as a method to clean an industrial floor, remove built-up rubber in tire manufacturing, oil oil-saturated substrates in machine shops, and produce a smoother floor reducing forklift damage and trip hazards.

The production of concrete slurry happens during all concrete wet cutting, wet drilling, and wet grinding processes. The slurry is a combination of water, concrete particles, and other contaminants that might be within the concrete matrix before wet polishing begins. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State, and Federal laws regulate the disposal of concrete slurry. Some factors should be addressed when disposing of concrete slurry, no matter how it’s produced.

Adding color to concrete is a wonderful way to incorporate the floor into the design of the surrounding area. Color can put a visual emphasis on the floor or minimize the floor. The environment the floor is in will help guide you in the right direction.

Concrete is the most widely used construction material throughout the world. It is used in all parts of a building. Walls, ceilings, and floors in an industrial or commercial facility can be built from concrete. Out of these, the floors take the most abuse. Every time there is abuse, maintenance comes into play.

Cured concrete is like a sponge. It has an internal void structure that holds water and allows it to freely move in all directions. Floor covering systems are only capable of handling so much moisture at the surface, within the slab, and moving out of it

On all construction sites, dust is everywhere. Primarily, dust is mainly found in the form of wood and concrete particles. The primary defense against dust is to capture it as it’s being generated. Whether grinding, cutting, or drilling, there will be dust, and the job of a dust extractor is to capture as much as possible as it is produced.
